Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is a web app manifest?

A small JSON file that tells browsers your site's name, icons, colours and how it should open when installed. With a manifest, a service worker and HTTPS, Chrome and Edge offer an "Install app" option and Android can add your site to the home screen like a native app.

What does the generated service worker do?

It caches your core files when the site is first visited, serves pages from the network when online and falls back to the cache, or to a friendly offline page, when the connection drops. Static files such as CSS, JavaScript and images are served cache-first for speed.

Do I need to change the service worker when I update my site?

Change the CACHE_VERSION value at the top of sw.js whenever you deploy. The new version replaces the old cache automatically.

Can I publish my PWA on Google Play?

Yes. An installable PWA can be wrapped as a Trusted Web Activity, or as a WebView app with our free website-to-APK builder, and uploaded to Google Play as an AAB.
